Moving overseas can be a really great experience, but proper planning can make the difference between a successful and a horrendous move. Whether the move is permanent or one that doesn’t even require you to use an auto shipping service to transport your car, organization and planning are the keys to not forgetting or regretting leaving behind belongings. Before you move, you must organize everything as much as you can from your current residence. This means figuring out your job situation in your new location and making sure your commute is not too long. If it is, you may need to use a automobile transport service to ship a car over. This may not be possible however, due to the fact that some countries drive on the other side of the road, or have different emissions or safety standards. After your job and auto transport situations are sorted out, you must make sure your living arrangements are as well. It is crucial that you know you are moving to a place in your price range, since countries like those in the EU and the United Kingdom have significantly stronger currencies than the Dollar. If it is possible, arrange to move in directly to your new house or apartment, or at least book a hotel to stay for a week while you find a suitable one. If your move is going to be permanent, it would be a good idea to buy the house or apartment on a separate trip, rather than rushing your decision, because you already have all your belongings in a hotel. The final thing you must do once you have your life sorted out in the new country, is to arrange your belongings for the move. This means deciding what to bring and what not too. Remember that on planes there is a limit to how much you can bring, so it might be a good idea to ship a lot of belongings over in boxes and just bring a suitcase or two on the plane. An alternative is to keep some of your larger belongings in storage, to be shipped over only if you really want them. Be warned that a lot of electronics will need adapters to plug in to sockets in foreign countries, so often times it is easier to just buy new electronics. Moving to a new country can be tough, but as long as you take your time, plan it out, and don’t rush the process, your move will be a success. |
